A Project of the Quezon City High School Alumni Association, Inc.

ADOPT-a-FUTURE

Adopt-a-Future was started in 2008 to provide assistance to needy, but deserving, Quezon City High School* (QCHS) graduates so they can go to college. Why the name Adopt-a-Future? It is a simple concept anchored on "getting them off the streets" and into schools. If we are able to put at least one young person to college, he/she will have better chances of getting a good job and earn a decent living. Hopefully, he may be able to lift his family off the poverty cycle, thus, changing not only his own future but also that of his family.

To date, the project has 30 scholars and has helped 5 high school students (under Adopt-a-High School Student). The beneficiaries, sponsors and volunteers who administer the project are all graduates of QCHS.

Unlike other scholarship programs, the project goes beyond the modest financial subsidy given to the scholars. Aside from tuition fees and allowances, they also receive donations from sponsors and other alumni for school supplies, engineering materials, school shoes/ bags, even free basic dental care. They are also given regular personality enhancement trainings and other learning seminars. So that they can have extra allowances, some of them do pay-for-work on weekends (odd jobs – babysitting, paperwork, light housework, etc.) and in the process, learn the value of work. Taking a step further, one or two scholars have been literally "adopted" into volunteers‟ homes so that they can get free accommodations and can fully concentrate on their studies.

At the same time, the administrators work closely with the scholars, who come to the alumni center at least once a month (for their allowances) and get involved in the year-round activities of the Association. Even the sponsors can communicate directly with the scholars and get to meet their parents, when they want to. Recently, we have started getting them involved in the administration of the project such as bringing them along during background checking and home visits to potential scholars. By doing this, we expose them to the lives of other needy families, help them to appreciate the project and motivate them to do their share in the future.

For the past two years, the project has evolved from the simple concept anchored on "getting them off the streets" to a committed involvement of volunteers, generous sponsors, the scholars themselves and their families, and has even extended to those who are outside the alumni community. Adopt-a-Future has definitely become the handiwork of people working together to make a difference.

Thank you for believing in the project.

The Quezon City High School is a public high school located in the heart of Kamuning, Quezon City, Philippines with about 4,600 students and 135 teachers (as of this school year).

How You Can Help

Sponsor one scholar:   To "adopt" one scholar, the amount of subsidy is P13,200.00/semester,  (2 semesters a year – June to October, November to March/April) or P26,400.00/ year.  For a full 4 year-course, the amount of donation is P105,600.00.  A 5 year-course is P132,000.00 for a full 5-year course.

The subsidy will pay for the scholar‟s tuitions fees and monthly allowances, plus the project‟s administration costs. Although the above amount is not enough to cover the full cost of sending one student to college, we encourage the parents to also put in their share in the other school expenses. This seals in the partnership between the Association and the parents in shaping the future of our young people. Make a donation

We fully encourage cash donations of any amount at anytime,  especially for those sponsors who cannot make the commitment for the entire 4 or 5 years.

Your cash donations would help in defraying the costs of  books (used or brand new), school materials, some clothing and even shoes. including other emergency school expenses.  Part of your donations are also used for our subsidiary "Adopt-a-High-School-Student", where graduating high school students are given financial assistance.
